Career change to Astronomy

Hello everyone,

I’m a 30 year old software developer. I’m extremely bored with my career and the market is terrible right now. I’ve been fascinated with Astronomy and space for a few years now and have read several books related to the subject, mostly those by Neil DeGrasse Tyson.

I would like to find some kind of Astronomy related job. I’m not even sure where to begin looking, and I feel like my state (Texas) doesn’t have many. Am I crazy for wanting this? Is it worth it? FWIW I also have the GI Bill and have been considering going back to school for either a second bachelor’s or some kind of degree in Astronomy/Physics. I’m mostly here for a reality check because my girlfriend and parents think I’m crazy, but this is something I really want to do.
