The current definition of “planet” is too complicated and doesn’t make sense.

Why not just separate planets from dwarf planets based on mass?

A minimum mass of 2\*10^(23) Kg would exclude all currently known moons and dwarf planets. It wouldn’t actually change anything for the solar system, it would however be much simpler.

The “having cleared the neighborhood around it’s orbit” criteria is vague and will be position dependent, a larger mass will be required if the object is farther from the sun.

**Update**

After seeing replies and thinking more about it i instead suggest to widen the definition of planet to include “dwaft planets” and some moons and instead use the term “major planet” for a planet with estimated mass of at least 2\*10^(23) Kg

It doesn’t make grammatical sense for a “dwarf planet” to not actually be a planet.
